What Is Float Therapy?

A float tank is a big, enclosed tub filled with warm water, and saturated with 1,200 pounds of Epsom salt. The density of the salty water supports every inch of your body, allows you to float effortlessly, and feel weightless.

Here’s how it works...

1. Private Room with Shower and Changing Area
Each of our float tanks is located inside its own private room with a door that locks. There’s a shower in each room, so you can shower before and after your session.

2. Everything You Need Is Provided
When you show up for your appointment, all you have to bring is yourself. We’ll provide earplugs, towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. And one of our attendants will walk you through the whole process and answer any questions you have.

3. Light Controls
There is a big button inside the tank that controls the lights. Most people float with the lights out, but it’s totally within your control. You can even switch back and forth throughout your session. The lights will come on when your session ends.

4. Sound Control
Right next to the light button, is another that controls the sound. When your session begins, we’ll play some relaxing music through the underwater speakers in the tank. One click will turn the sound off. Another click will set the music to low. Another click sets the music on medium. Another click for high. And one more to turn it off again.

5. Temperature Controlled Water
The water inside the tank is heated to approximately 94.0 Degrees Fahrenheit, which is just a little warmer than the surface of your skin. After a little while, your skin temperature will normalize and you won’t be able to feel the water at all.

6. 1,200 Pounds of Epsom Salt
1,200 pounds of Epsom Salt are dissolved in the tank solution. It becomes so dense that you effortlessly float along the surface of the water, it supports every inch of your body evenly, allowing you to completely relax.

7. Temperature Controlled Air
The air inside the chamber is heated to the same temperature as the water. After a while, the difference between the air temperature and water temperature will melt away, leaving you feeling like you’re floating in space.

8. State of the Art Filtration Unit
Each of our float tanks has its own filtration unit that automatically cleans the tank solution in between each appointment. Each filtration unit has a 1 micron bag filter, an Ozone filter, and a UV Filter (plus the water is treated with Hydrogen Peroxide), so you can be certain the tank solution is cleaner than any pool you've ever been in.

6 Key Benefits of Float Therapy for People with Pain

1. Takes pressure off joints
When you lie down in a float tank, the surface of the solution supports every inch of your body equally, like a memory foam mattress but better. This takes the pressure off joints and allows muscles to completely relax. Float therapy has been shown to be effective in reducing pain, including chronic pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, muscle soreness, and even migraine headaches.

2. Reduces muscle tension
Many chronic pain conditions cause muscles to tense in an effort to stabilize joints. Those muscles can become “stuck”, pulling the body out of alignment and causing further pain. Floating supports your body weight without any effort from the muscles, and allows them to fully relax and unwind built up tension.

3. Magnesium can reduce inflammation
The water in the tank contains 1,200 pounds of dissolved Epsom Salt. Epsom Salt salt has been used to treat aches and pains for centuries. It works because Epsom Salt is Magnesium Sulfate. Magnesium, an essential mineral, is absorbed through the skin. One of the many benefits of Magnesium is that it can help reduce inflammation, which is one the key markers of painful, stiff, achey, and sore muscles and joints.

4. Improves circulation
The warm water in the float tank can cause blood vessels to dilate, which can improve blood flow and circulation. This increased blood flow can help to deliver more oxygen and nutrients to the body's tissues and organs. The reduction in pressure can help to increase blood flow to ares that may have been restricted due to tension or compression. Float tanks can also reduce stress, which helps reduce cortisol levels, which can cause blood vessels to constrict.

5. Improves flexibility and range of motion
This combination of benefits above has been shown to improve flexibility and range of motion in a wide variety of users. When pain, stiffness, soreness, and inflammation are reduced and circulation is improved, you might notice that the injured areas are able to move more freely. Combining a float therapy regimen with stretching, massage, and movement can drastically improve your flexibility, range of motion, and day-to-day mobility.

6. Reduces stress and Improves sleep
The benefits of float therapy work are a self-reinforcing loop. When you’re in less pain, you’re less stressed and you sleep better. Restful sleep is one of the body’s most powerful tools for recovery. When you sleep better, you might experience less pain the next day, feel less stressed, and your body can continue its recovery. Float therapy is a powerful way to support the body’s natural healing process.
